DAVID AHLSTED
As a kid growing up in Minneapolis, making pictures that took a stab at capturing "reality" was a preoccupation of mine.
After 50 years, I am still a realist painter, in that I paint the recognizable world. However, like the work of the painters who have influenced me, the aesthetic balance of my work tilts slightly toward the abstract aspects of painting, rather than description. Content, plus geometry, color, light and shadow. Perhaps it was those many visit to the Walker Art Center.
