Since I (not very gently) persuaded my husband to write his bio for his 50th reunion last year, I am now finally doing mine. Here are brief highlights since graduation: June 1965: BS in Medical Technology from U of MN. Worked as a Student Technologist Supervisor (worked and taught students on a one-to-one basis) in the Diagnostic Microbiology Lab at the U of MN Hospitals. August, 1965: Married my wonderful husband, Dale Dobrin, NHS Class of 1960. He was a medical student at the time and went on to do a Pediatric residency after his graduation in 1968. March, 1969 and May, 1971: Two terrific sons born!! I worked as a teaching assistant for medical students' and Med Tech students' Lab Medicine courses between their births. As our sons grew up, I did LOTS of volunteer work in their schools and in their various activities. Attended innumerable baseball, football, soccer, hockey games, ski meets, debates, etc. December, 1972 - September, 1974: Lived in Tacoma, WA while Dale served in the army at Madigan Army Medical Center. Enjoyed the "regular" hours and touring all around the beautiful surrounding areas. We moved back to Mpls. and Dale started his Pediatric practice. He is still working, and says he will continue to practice "until he gets it right!" 1989 - 1997: I worked as a Research Data Coordinator on an HIV database research project at Hennepin County Medical Center. Learned to use a computer at that time, which was invaluable. January, 2008: Dale had hip replacement surgery. Doing fine now; he bikes and swims instead of running. May, 2009: I had right rotator cuff and biceps tendon surgery. Back to normal now - playing tennis, etc. Things I enjoy doing now (in no particular order): Walking around Lake Harriet, Zumba, Cardio Dance aerobics, reading, traveling, tennis, skiing (not so much anymore), gardening, mah jongg, crosswords, cryptoquips, plays at the Guthrie, etc., concerts, sporting events - Gophers and pros, spending time with family and friends. We feel very blessed. No grandchildren yet, but we never say never. I always said I would go back to school for advanced degrees "when my kids are in school." Still might some day (never say never). Looking forward to seeing everyone at our 50th!! (If I don't see you, it is because I don't have my glasses on!) |
